Bottled in June 2018, the 2016 Chardonnay opens with decadent nectarine, spiced pears and apple pie scents with hints of lemon tart, orange blossoms and candied ginger plus a waft of marzipan. Full-bodied and rich, with a lovely satiny texture, it has a seamless line of freshness and tons of citrus and stone layers on the finish.

2019 RUBIA
CHARDONNAY, RITCHIE VINEYARD RRV
Aromas are very delicate, pear, white fruits,
honeydew and subtle touches of lychee and aromatic
herbs. This is a fresh and rich chardonnay, balancing
the expression of the site through its richness and the
elegance of the Russian River through its freshness.
About The Process:
The 2019 Rubia Ritchie Chardonnay comes from the
revered Ritchie Vineyard in the Russian River AVA. The
grapes are handpicked and whole-cluster pressed. The
juice is fermented in 100% new French oak and kept on
lees for 16 months with a light monthly batonnage. The
barrel fermentation reinforces the sweet texture from the
Russian River, and the malolactic fermentation finishes to
round the palate and polishes the acidity for a soft and
creamy finish.

What we know now, after thirteen years of blending blind, is that the way we see and experience the wines barrel by barrel is profoundly untypical. What at once seems confusingly disparate, slips into new combinations and is reflected back clearly only after hours and hours at the blending table.
Both chardonnay and pinot noir tell their stories across a broad arc of expression; from pale, fair and ethereal to saturated and stacked. In some vintages, these voices come together in one symphonic chorus but oftentimes, the highest possible answer allows us – or rather, demands – that we turn our attention to a single expression and allow it to rise into a bottle of its own.
Only produced in certain vintages, Aequorin chardonnay and Obelin pinot noir step down from the risers and into the spotlight to deliver the rarest solo performances.

Textures & flavors that can only be attained from combining some magnificent single vineyards from the Sonoma Coast!
Ferren’s Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a barrel-select blend of all the single vineyard Chardonnays (Frei, Silver Eagle, and Lancel Creek). No less astounding in texture, depth, or acidity, it is simply barrels that offer more in their youth and the tiniest touch less oak.

2020 FERREN SONOMA COAST
with aromas of lemon curd and spiced apples, crushed stone and flowers. The palate surprises with its sheer intensity of spicy citrus flavors, satiny and super fresh, and it finishes with incredible uplift and salty tang. Despite its appellation status, this cuvée offers all the class of the rest of the Ferren portfolio. Winemaker Matt Courtney says, "I like a little bit of reduction, so I sought vineyard sites closer to the ocean, where you get a bit of that salty, iodine character. There's so much tension, the wines could be too backward and tight, and I want this to be approachable.

5 Stars The Wine Lab
The beautifully bright gold appearance is alluring. Pineapple, pear, apricot, and lemon curd are blended with toast, white flowers, and honey on the nose. The medium body palate is simultaneously rich and linear.Additional fruits joining the nose are green apple, kiwi, and lime. Accompanying the fruit are flinty notes of wetstone and chalk. All of this gives way to a medium plus mouthwatering finish of sweet and sour lemon-lime candy. The acid in this wine makes it a natural pairing with seafood and would be exceptional with lobster and clarified butter. Drink now and over the next 10 years.

A Wine Lab All Time Favorite Italian White Wine
This gorgeous wine draws its fruit from a seven-hectare vineyard near the village of Lapio. The Quintodecimo 2021 Fiano di Avellino Exultet is layered with minty apple, poached pear and wild fennel, or finocchietto in Italian. The aromas are delivered with elegant and discreet intensity, and you can count on a lasting end note of salinity or crushed mineral that gives framing and contouring to the pretty primary fruit. Thanks to careful aging on the lees, the wine offers a naked and faithful portrait of the Fiano grape. Distant powdering of crushed white pepper or licorice root appear on the extremely silky, medium-textured finish.
